What Everyone Should Know About Soap

  • True natural soap is better for you.  It gently cleanses without drying your skin.  Most people don't have dry skin, eczema, or dermatitis, they just use too many harsh cleansers whose toxic ingredients cause allergic reactions and over-strip the skin's natural protective oils.

  • Most "soaps" are not soap, but detergent.  Detergents are frequently derived from petroleum and consist mainly of surfactants, foaming agents, and alcohols.  Detergent bars also typically contain toxic, synthetic fragrances, animal fat, carcinogenic coal tar derivative dyes, and synthetic preservatives.

  • Many detergents contain potentially harmful chemicals.  These chemicals are absorbed into your skin and are washed into our waterways.

  • True soap is made with natural products (fat, alkali, and water), and requires very little energy in the production process.  It is possible to make without having left-over by-products that tend to go to the landfill, and the soap that flows down the drain while washing is biodegradable.

  • True soap begins biodegrading within hours.  Detergents can take centuries to break down!

  • True soaps should retain their natural glycerin, instead of being removed and sold for profit, as mass producers generally do.  Glycerin acts as a humectant for your skin, and adds emollient qualities to the soap.
